Abstract

Biological control may be employed through conservation and augmentation in addition to the classical approach of introducing exotic natural enemies for introduced pests. Enhancing the efficiency of biocontrol agents is important to derive maximum benefit and cost effectiveness. Again farmers will have faith and acceptance on biocontrol and will safeguard the environment. Enhancing the innate potential of biocontrol agents through genetic improvement, selection and other biotechnological approaches, may increase the efficiency of biocontrol agents. Genetic improvement of natural enemies is one of the important approaches for the release of superior natural enemies having tolerance to various stresses namely pesticides and temperature in addition to good biological fitness attributes.
